As lacrosse continues to grow in popularity, athletes need a place they can go to train and improve their skills. Competitive Edge is proud to provide year-round private and group sessions designed to take your skills to the next level.
Movement and Mechanics
Lacrosse is a physically demanding sport that requires athletes to develop speed, endurance, strength and mobility. Our drills deliver the conditioning needed to improve form and technique and to master the movement and mechanics required to excel on the field. This includes lacrosse-specific exercises, as well as exercises designed to develop:
- Sprint speed
- Sprinting biomechanics
- Safety and injury prevention
- Strength training
- Endurance and anaerobic training
- Plyometric training
- Core stabilization
- Hand-eye/eye-foot coordination
- Reaction training
- Lacrosse-specific skills
Shooting, Dodging and Passing
We focus heavily on shooting, dodging and passing. We run a variety of drills, which help athletes improve reaction time and body control. More than anything, our students appreciate the time provided to work on their individual areas of opportunity, which is something they simply don’t have the opportunity to do during team practice. When it comes to shooting, we teach a variety of methods including overhead shooting, seated shooting, shadow shooting and more.
The Rules of the Game
Lacrosse continues to grow in popularity here in the United States, but it is still a sport many are unfamiliar with. It is not as widely televised as most sports and not something most kids are exposed to in their P.E. classes. Even if your child’s school offers lacrosse as an extracurricular activity, they may not yet fully understand the rules of the game. Our training focuses heavily on technique but also on the strategies one must develop to play within the rules of the game.
Our private lacrosse training provides athletes ample time to develop their technique, but no team is successful without excellent communication. Sign up to train with a few members of your team or a few friends who love lacrosse or to a group clinic, and learn to develop your communication and interpersonal skills. Even if the other athletes go to different schools or are members of different teams, our group sessions provide the opportunity to learn to communicate and work with a variety of personalities and communication styles.
Confidence on the field is directly related to performance and technique. The more your student athlete improves, the more confidence they will exude during tryouts, practice and on game days. This confidence often leads to an improved attitude and enthusiasm, both of which are contagious.
We train athletes of all ages and skill levels, including students who plan to play lacrosse at the collegiate and competitive level. In addition to our lacrosse-specific training, we also provide general athletic training to keep your body conditioned and balanced from head to toe.
Competitive Edge aims to develop the “complete athlete” using performance sports training in Woodbridge, VA and surrounding areas. Members are able to enhance their athletic performance and develop a competitive edge to excel in their desired sport.
