So, how are you doing on your 2018 fitness resolutions? You certainly aren’t alone if you have slipped off track. At only two months into the year, there is still plenty of time to turn things around. Below are a few goal-setting tips to help you take things to the next level. These tips also apply to anyone who is still on track and aims to stay there.

Ensure Your Goals Are Realistic

Whether speaking of your diet or workout schedule, you must ensure your goals are realistic. At the start of a new year, we are so motivated that it is not uncommon to commit to a fitness schedule that won’t realistically fit into our weekly routine — or a diet that is simply too extreme or restrictive. These unrealistic goals can be discouraging, because they are unreasonable to maintain. Instead, set goals that are challenging but reasonable, specific and measurable.

Plan Ahead

Your life is too busy and your health too important not to schedule in the time required to achieve your goals. Instead of saying “I’ll work out four days this week” or “I’ll eat healthier food this week,” plan ahead. Schedule your Competitive Edge classes into your week and maybe an active family activity or two. In terms of healthy eating, prep veggies in advance, stock up on health frozen foods and cook what you can in advance — such as your favorite whole grains.

Gradually Increase Intensity

Are You Still on Track to Achieve Your 2018 Fitness Resolutions? One of the challenges with gym workouts is you don’t have someone dedicated to pushing you to the next level. Sign up for our private training and weekly group workouts, and your instructor will make sure you get the most out of every workout. We start where you are, teach proper form and gradually increase intensity as your strength and endurance improve. This gradual increase is how you will achieve and maintain your fitness goals.

Focus on the Positive

Instead of beating yourself up each time you miss a workout or overindulging in your favorite foods, focus on the positive instead. Get into the habit of recognizing each healthy decision you make. For example, every time you make it to your Adult Fit class after a long day when you would rather just head home, every time you take the stairs instead of the elevator and each time you say no to the empty calorie treats in the office breakroom, celebrate! By focusing more energy on the positive, you are more likely to stay on track.

Make It Fun
